The Royal Wedding

May 1, 2011

Official Royal Wedding Photograph

This would be a dream come true for any girl in the world: To marry a prince (luckily I already have mine). On Friday, 29th April 2010 Catherine Middleton married Prince William of Wales in the royal wedding of the century- just in case you’ve been living under a rock.

And a fairy tale wedding it was. All the guests were dressed to the nines. Amazing hats and fascinator’s were the chosen accessories for the day. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many feathers in a church before. Westminster Abbey looked mystical, filled with beautiful trees. Both Princes looked extremely dapper in their uniforms. But what we were all waiting to see was Catherine’s dress.

Let me just say this. I was expecting a monstrosity. We knew she would have to cover her shoulders, so strapless was out of the question. As the Abbey is such a ‘dramatic’ venue, I was also expecting a 20 metre train, with lots of bunching and festoons of fabric. And beads, I expected awful beads.

When she stepped out of the Rolls Royce, I was shocked. That dress by Sarah Burton was a dream. So plain, classy and elegant, she looked like a real princess. The veil, tiara and diamond earing’s were the perfect accessories giving her such a regal look. She looked beautiful.

The Royal Kiss

The ceremony was lovely. It gave me goose-bumps to see how full the streets of London were. The carriage procession was also breath-taking. It was the perfect royal wedding. I wish the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge many happy years together. They make a beautiful couple.

My Essie Obsession

April 22, 2011

Truly an obsession. There are no other words. Some might think it’s a little crazy but I don’t care. I adore Essie nail polish. It’s such a great pick-me-up. If you’re feeling a bit down, a quick lick of paint on the nails and your mood is immediately lightened. Well mine is anyway.

So here are some of my current favourites that I have. Do you love them? I need to update the winter collection a bit more though.

I LOVE ESSIE!

Lilacism

Lapis of Luxury

Haute As Hello

Mint Candy Apple

Velvet Voyage

These are on my to-buy list:

Chinchilly

Ballet Slippers

Merino Cool

Just doing this blog post makes me smile. Don’t you love the names too? So cute.

Happy (BELATED) New Year!

January 25, 2011

I have been a very bad blogger in 2011. This is my first blog for the year! <Slap wrists>

Do you believe in New Year Resolutions? I don’t particularly. They always build up too much pressure and alas I never stick them out. However, I am definitely no pessimist.

I hope that 2011 will be a fantastic year for me. I am going to be doing my honours this year (fist pump). I will also be making the preparations to be a wife (a little anxious about that one). But all in all I am going to do my absolute best to give 110% this year.

My keyword for this year is going to be: BALANCE i.e. A LOT of studying, A LOT of gym, and A LOT of fun. Is there any other way? LOL

SO…HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Book Review: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

December 23, 2010

This was one of the first books I downloaded on my kindle. I had heard excellent reviews about the series and was anxious to make my purchase. I wanted to read the book before I watched the movie.

I started the book without having a clue what it was about. Romance, mystery, comedy…I had no idea. So at first I was a little taken aback by the darkness of the story, but I persisted. My persistence did not last long as eventually I was completely enthralled by the story- line that had evolved. I was eager to find out what would happen.  I finished the book within a day or two. It was excellent.

Stieg Larsson’s (the author) own history plays a fundamental role in the book. He was well known for his involvement in the fight against racism and right-wing extremism. He was also the chief editor for a magazine named Expo, its aim to expose Neo-Nazi activity in Sweden. The links to a magazine editor, the Neo-Nazi activity and a fight against racism are all clearly apparent in the book.

However, be warned: This book is not for the feint-hearted.

Lisbeth Salander is an unexpected heroine however without her the book would not have its distinct flavour. It was highly enjoyable to read a story from her perspective with such distinct moral choices being made. She is a character that leaves with you with wanting more. I cannot wait to discover more about her and her past. Mikael Blomkvist provides the balance to Salanders’ ‘heaviness’. His character is generally very likeable and quite light-hearted. He tends to be the breath of fresh air in between.

The only thing I ‘disliked’ or should I say ‘struggled with’ were all the Swedish terms. That left me in the dark a little but it was nothing that did damage to the overall objective of the story. In fact, it enhanced the culture in the mystery.

This story will entice and scare you. But most importantly it will leave you thinking. I cannot wait to read The Girl Who Played with Fire and lastly The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows

November 27, 2010

Last night my fiancé and I went to see the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows movie. It was a last minute decision and we were lucky to still get tickets. I was overjoyed though! I am quite the Harry Potter fan.

I read all the books many moons ago and in all honestly I could barely remember the story line. It actually added to the spontaneity of the whole thing. I was continuously sitting on the edge of my seat.

Twilight

As you know I also happen to be a Twilight fan. However, the Twilight-brand has let me down. It has become far too much of a money making racket, with the emphasis on pushing movies out as quickly as possible. That is the difference with the Harry Potter- franchise. The integrity of each book has been kept and only the highest standard applied. Yes it does take quite awhile for a movie to be released but when it is, you are not disappointed. The last Eclipse movie was so lame and corny. I know that when I take my fiancé to watch a Harry Potter movie, he’s not going to be rolling his eyes every five minutes (and I actually agree with him).

Harry Potter

I found this movie really enjoyable. The actors have all grown up a bit and you can tell the difference in their acting. It was actually a bit scary, with some crazy action round every corner, which was exactly what I was hoping for. The movie was also not as dark as the last one (last time I could barely see a thing!). The only downside is that is stopped halfway, which is also kind of the upside. I’m really looking forward to the last one.

So I thoroughly enjoyed it and it has inspired me to read the book again, just to catch up on all the small stuff.

My Lenovo s10-3

November 19, 2010

Excitement. The only word to explain my day. My brand new Lenovo s10-3 Netbook arrived today. Yay!

I won the netbook through the most fabulous site: Girl Guides! Do yourself a favour and check out their site. It’s all about gadgets and technology, with reviews and how-to’s. It’s truly awesome. I love them.

This netbook is adorable. It is tiny! I can’t believe it! Compare to my old 15 inch, this 10 inch is minute! It’s also super sleek with its shiny black exterior. It has a built in webcam which is so much better than lugging my old one around. The keyboard is somehow larger than my old one, I have no idea how they got that right! The only thing is that the scrollpad is a bit sticky which is a bit annoying but hopefully I’ll get used to it with practise.

It came with Windows 7 starter. I love it because I hated Vista. Super irritated with only one thing. I CANT CHANGE THE BACKGROUND! That is so weird. Apparently I have to buy a better version of Windows to fix this. This is what I hear. So dumb.

I have no complaints though. It is beautiful and portable and brilliant. Thank you very much.

Joining the Gym

November 15, 2010

Guess what? I joined a gym, FINALLY! Go me!

I joined Virgin Active and I couldn’t be happier. The service in that place is absolutely amazing. The staff are super friendly and helpful but not in a creepy irritating kind of way. They have a huge selection of classes, from Aqua Aerobics to Zumba (A to Z, get it?) and some belly dancing in between, they have it all! You can even do weights and cardio if you want…Hahaha (I thought it was funny)!

I started off with the Aqua Aerobics thinking I would ease myself into it. Who was I kidding? It was flippen hard! Kudos to my 61 year old instructor, who’s been teaching for the last forty years. Every inch of my body is aching. So here’s to a slimmer trimmer me!

Seriously though, I have zero muscles and when I’m older I don’t want that to be a problem. I’m looking after myself now so that old age wont be such a shock. Thinking ahead…

Yes!!!!

NO!!

So wish me luck!

Kindle: A Revolution

November 12, 2010

I’ve always been a book-aholic. I can read for hours and hours and hours.  Some people don’t get it, but I’ve inherited it from my mom. She’s my partner in crime.

So with the new Kindle coming out (with WI-FI and 3G), I really wanted to get one. So my wonderful, gorgeous, amazing fiancé got me one, and my dad got my mom one. I really love it! I never thought I would, being the tradionalist I am. I was always against technology and reading mixing up. You just can’t cuddle up with a lap top like you can with a real book. Well, I was wrong.

The Kindle is a super comfortable size, and it’s perfect to cuddle with. I was so eager I downloaded books ASAP. This is what I chose for my holiday. What do you think of reading list?

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

The Girl who Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson

The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest by Stieg Larsson

The Fall of Giants by Ken Follet

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (I’ve already started and its stunning!)

What is convenient is that I only have to pack this tiny little tablet in my holiday bag instead of 5 huge bibles! Lots more space for shoes then…PERFECT! Another bonus is that the books are much cheaper than actually buying them in a shop AND I can do it from the comfort of my home, without schlepping to a book store. I like it, I like it a lot.

So if you love to read and you enjoy nifty gadgets do yourself a favour and get a Kindle. You wont regret it.

Help Me Win a HP Vivienne Tam Netbook!

November 11, 2010

I am on a mission. I am on a mission to win the most beautiful Netbook that ever existed. That’s right, the HP Vivienne Tam. We even have the same name. So @GirlGuidesZA this one is for you.

I don’t know what the reason is, but I like pretty things. I can’t help it! At the moment my current laptop (although I do love it very much, we have spent many precious hours together) is just not cutting it. Not when you compare it to the beauty of the Vivienne Tam. It’s big, bulky and black. Yuck.

So the competition is that I must get as many people as possible to create accounts at GirlGuides. But the thing is I have to refer you! So I have to send you the email and you must take it from there.

SO PLEASE EVERYONE OUT THERE, HELP ME OUT!

If you are interested, comment on my blog: leave your name and email with me (I promise not to make the message public), and I will refer you to the site. Then you can create your own account and log in. Remember, I have to you refer you. We have till 12 November at 12:00 (tomorrow, yup Friday) to make it happen!

Thanks guys, you are the best!

P.S I really would not mind winning a Blackberry either. I own a very sad, very old little phone that doesn’t even take pictures. It’s sad but true. I would also love to get into the world of “BBM”, I feel very left out of the giant circle. It would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
